We were spanked
Here we are in April with the baseball and the longer and warmer days. I always enjoy the changing seasons. - always gives me energy.
Lori and I enjoyed the Asylum Street Spankers show on Saturday. Since it was a venue we hadn't been to before, we went early and spoke with the manager about Brave Combo. Lori's always on the job! It was a bar - big wood floor - held about 300 people. Band and the sound were great! One of the band's founders, Wammo, Lori's spoken with a couple of times but never met, so we put faces and voices and names all together. Anyway, we did dinner, checked out the club, went to the casino, then back to the club for the show.
The Spankers's music is a great combination of rock, folk, and tin pan alley styles all rolled up. They play all acoustic instruments and, much like bluegrass acts, place a microphone or two in front of the stage to catch what needs to get amplified. Check 'em out!
This week I find myself listening to lots of older stuff. I was going to say 70s and 80s and not older, thinking that 'older' was older than that, but then it occured to me we're talking 25-35 year old recordings, so I think they qualify. Anyway heavy rotation included Talking Heads and Kansas. I did check out Solomon Burke's new CD from just the last year or so, and it's really cool and just started listening to P.O.D.'s first. We'll see about that one.
